Hawaiian Shirts and Hula Dancers

All my students rave about it. It's the halfway point between my current home and my original home. It's a tropical island with delicious food and an incredibly popular honeymoon getaway location. Let's face it, I didn't really have any other choice BUT to visit Hawaii at some point in my life. I chose my last vacation as the time to scratch that one off the bucket list.

The Hawaiian shirts expectation couldn't have been more true; they were literally everywhere. The hula dancers however, I did not see many of, lots of torches instead.

Hawaii's weather was one of the strangest aspects of the trip. It would rain for about 10-15 minutes, with strong winds and then it would turn into a lovely day with the sun gleaming. Keep in mind that this was in late March when I was there, but if weather.com's prediction of your trip prepares you for a nightmare, don't sweat it because the poor weather conditions will likely be short-lived. Also, I learned about a term called "vog" (no I didn't spell "fog" wrong). Due to Hawaii being a volcanic island, a unique sort of fog is produced there.

It's not everyday that I encounter a place with Waikiki Beach's atmosphere. It's lively and happening, yet soothing and relaxing in the same beat. The Mai Tais are made WAY too strong and you can find all kinds of interesting characters carousing the sidewalks.

Aside from Waikiki's awe-inspiring waves and sand, it's worth having a look around the rest of the island. Equally stunning picturesque views can be found at Kailua Beach and Lanikai Beaches. These beaches are actually within walking distance of one another and it takes 1.5-2 hours to get there via bus from Waikiki. These places are less crowded and have a different vibe from Waikiki, so in my humble opinion, well worth the trip!

I also toured the historical district, which included China town and that's also worth doing if you've got some spare time to come off the beaches. Next time I will have to visit another island too, like Maui or The Big Island!
